On Saturday, we had a party for our Japanese Army Officier students from Kodaira. This is 5 of my 6 students that will be graduating in 2 weeks. They come to school for 6 months to learn English so they can act as translators for their home units. This has been a really fun group for me. For those of you that aren't familiar, the Japanese have a tendency to flash the victory sign (or peace sign as we know it) for picture taking moments.

Japanese Potty
No we haven't officially started potty training but I did buy a Japanese potty seat. It really is more like a ride on toy. The Japanese start training very early compared to us so they make the seats more interesting to say the least. It's pretty good though. It transitions to sitting on the regular toilet and then you finally take the toy part off. I made the mistake of putting him on it before going in the tub. So now he thinks you have to be naked to sit on it. Not good. Quinn enjoys sitting on it in the buff and making driving noises and saying "pee-pee, poo-poo" (it's all the same thing to him.)

Tanabata Festival
Last week-end we headed down to Fussa City to celebrate the Tanabata Festival ( Star Festival). It's a street festival that includes lots of decorations hanging in the streets, lots of dancers and drummers and food vendors everywhere. Quinn loves festival food including yakisoba (noodles), yakitori(meat on a stick), and washes it down with a sip of CC Lemon. Most of the Japanese adults wear a yukata (summer kimono) and the kids wear a jimbe. So keeping with the locals, Quinn wore his jimbe. Neal carried him in the backpack carrier and somehow from one end of the street to the other Quinn acquired a fan which he wouldn't let go of all day.

First One
We are starting this blog so that our family & friends can look at pictures of Quinn growing up in Japan. And maybe a few pictures of us every once in a while.
